John Steinhilber is coaching his second season at Hebron.

This is the 98th season of boys varsity basketball at Hebron.  Hebron started playing boys basketball during the 1914-15 school year.  The program has 1130 recorded wins and 858 losses for a .568 winning percentage.

Hebron opened the season with a 57-42 win over Covenant Christian.  Cody Artuso led the team with 18 points followed by Damon Wallace with 16.  Kyle Joyce added 11.

The boys lost to Kouts to open the PCC season.  Damon Wallace led the Hawks with 19 points and 3 steals.  Cody Artuso added 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Damon Wallace scored a career high 32 points in a 66-65 win over Wheeler.  Damon had 6 three pointers in the game.  The 6 threes are the 3rd most in a game by a Hebron player.  The record is 9 by Josh Spinks in 93-94 and Mike Pritchard in 95-96 followed by Shawn Ryan who had 7 in 87-88.  Cody Artuso followed Damon with 19 points.  Cody scored his 576th career point in the game to move into the top 50 on the career scoring list.  Damon scored his 400th career point in the game and now has 415.

The team got a huge Homecoming game win over Hanover 70-63.  Damon Wallace led the team again with 28 points followed by Cody Artuso and Spencer Sheets with 10 each.

Hebron beat LaCrosse 60-42 to move to 2-1 in the PCC.  Cody Artuso and Damon Wallace each had 18 points to lead the team.  Cody scored his 600th career point (604) and is now 42nd on the all-time scoring list.  Among those that Cody passed was 1940 graduate Floyd Johnson who scored 590 points in an era when team scoring wasn't very abundant.

The team won their 4th game in a row by beating Lowell.  Cody Artuso (14), Damon Wallace (13) and Spencer Sheets (11) were in double figures for Hebron.

Hebron beat Morgan for their 5th straight win and moved to 3-1 in the PCC.  Damon Wallace (11), Cody Artuso (10) and Kyle Schmidt (10) were all in double figures. 

PLAYERS MOVING IN ON CAREER MILESTONES

Seniors Damon Wallace, Cody Artuso and Jay Patz are moving up the career leader boards in several categories.  Damon got into the top 20 in career 3 pointers made, top 35 in career assists and has moved up 10 spots to 2nd place in career steals only 10 behind 2001 graduate Andy Marks who has the record at 165.  Cody started the season in 2nd place in career blocked shots and has gotten to within 4 of 2003 graduate Ryan Ragland who has the record of 145.  Cody has also moved up 10 spots to 17th in career rebounds and into the top 25 in career steals.  Jay Patz has moved into the top 25 in career blocked shots and the top 35 in career steals.

 

75TH SOUTH COUNTY TOURNAMENT

Hebron advanced to their 48th championship game in the tourney by beating Boone Grove 52-42.  Damon Wallace led the Hawks with 17 points and also scored his 500th career point. 

75th SOUTH COUNTY TOURNEY CHAMPIONS

Hebron won their 27th South County Tourney title.  The Hawks record in the 75 year old tourney was 92-58.  Damon Wallace led Hebron with 23 points in the championship game and led all scorers with 40 total points in the 2 games.  Cody Artuso added 16 points in the championship game.  Hebron also won the Keg back in the game.  Cody moved into 35th place on the all-time scoring list at Hebron with 655 points.

ARTUSO BLOCKED SHOT LEADER

Senior Cody Artuso blocked his 146th career shot in the championship game of the south county tourney against Kouts to become Hebron's all-time leader.  Cody broke Ryan Ragland's record of 145 set in 2003.  Damon Wallace also got his 151st assist in the game to move into 30th place on the all-time Hebron list.

The team made their first keg defense against South Central and won 66-36.  Cody Artuso led the team with 26 points.  The boys have now won 8 consecutive games which is the most since the 1993-94 team won 24 straight before losing to #1 Valpo in the regional final.

Hebron beat Kouts in the first round of the PCC tourney.  Cody Artuso had 22 points and Damon Wallace added 21.  Jay Patz scored his 300th career point in the game.

PCC TOURNEY CHAMPIONS

Hebron won its 18th PCC tourney championship and 1st since 2001-02.  The title is the 3rd for coach Steinhilber.  His first two came as the coach at South Central.  Hebron beat South Central in the semi-finals and Morgan in the championship game.  Cody Artuso and Damon Wallace each had 10 points and Jay Patz and Spencer Sheets each had 9 against South Central.  Cody had 24 points and 10 rebounds in the championship game to lead the team.  Kyle Joyce and Jay Patz each had 8. Cody now has 737 career points and is in 25th place on the career scoring list. Cody also has 458 career rebounds and is in 12th place on the career list. Damon Wallace got his 575th career point to move into a tie for 50th on the career scoring list.

PAUER, M.E. DINSMOORE AWARD WINNER

John Pauer won the most prestigious award the PCC gives out.  The M.E. Dinsmoore award is the oldest mental attitude award in the PCC and was the example for the other mental attitude awards in the conference.  John also won the boys volleyball mental attitude award and became the 6th Hebron athlete to win 2 mental attitude awards.  Molly Marshall won 3 awards in 2008-09.  M.E. Dinsmoore was not only known for being the superintendant of Porter county schools for 29 years but was also Hebron's first basketball coach from 1914-15 to 1917-18.

WALLACE CAREER STEAL LEADER

Senior Damon Wallace had 5 steals in the championship game against Morgan to get to 169 career steals.  Damon passed 2001 graduate Andy Marks who had 165 career steals.  Damon now has 59 steals this year which puts him in a tie for 5th in a single season.  Eric Elliot set the record of 69 steals in 2006-07. 

Damon Wallace had 25 points in a 65-43 win over Rensselaer.  Spencer Sheets added 14 and Cody Artuso had 13.  Damon reached 600 points for his career.

Hebron beat Washington twp to mov to 5-1 in the PCC with their 13th consecutive win. Cody Artuso had 24 followed by Damon Wallace 14 and Spencer Sheets 11.  Spencer Sheets scored his 100th career point in the game.  Cody has moved up to 23rd on the career scoring list with 774 career points and Damon is tied for 42nd with 614 career points.

The boys beat River Forest 61-34 behind 21 points from Cody Artuso.  Damon Wallace (15) and Kyle Schmidt (11) were also in double figures.

Damon Wallace had 19 points in a win against Kankakee Valley.  Cody Artuso scored 11 points to go over the 800 career point mark to 806.  Kyle Schmidt scored 7 points to move over the 100 career point mark.

The hawks ran their winning streak to 16 with a win over Michigan City Marquette.  Damon Wallace led the scoring with 20 and Cody Artuso added 18.  Spencer Sheets was also in double figures with 12. 

Hebron beat Boone Grove to finish the PCC round robin at 6-1.  7 players had 5 or more points in the balanced scoring effort. 

The boys beat Westville to extend their winning streak.  Cody Artuso led the team with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 7 blocked shots.  Damon Wallace added 13 points and Jay Patz had 10 rebounds.  Cody also scored his 856th career point to move into the top 20.

HAWKS GET 20th WIN

Hebron beat North Newton 66-34 to end the regular season at 20-1.  This is the 10th time in school history that a team has won 20 games in a season.  Damon Wallace had 24 points and moved over the 700 point mark for his career and into the top 30.  Cody passed Ryan Ragland (2003) and is tied with Tim Reisinger (1981) for 18th place.

The team beat North Judson 64-59 in the first round of the sectional.  Damon Wallace had 24 points and moved into the top 25 on the career scoring list.  Spencer Sheets added 18.

Hebron beat Boone Grove to advance to the sectional final.  Damon Wallace had 25 points and 7 steals and moved into 24th place on the career scoring list.  Cody Artuso added 19 points and moved over the 900 career point mark to 909 and passed 1978 grad Jeff Pass into 17th place.

SECTIONAL CHAMPIONS

The boys won the sectional championship by beating Rochester 56-41.  The title is the 9th sectional championship in school history.  This is the first class 2A sectional championship.  Hebron also won 1 title in class 1A and 7 in the single class system.  Cody Artuso had 20 points and Damon Wallace had 16.

TIES TO PAST CHAMPIONS

Coach Steinhilber's father, Jerry played on the first two sectional championship teams in 1953 and 1954.  Spencer Sheets' father, Ray played on the 1974 sectional championship team.  Jay and Ryan Patz's uncle, Craig played on the 1976 sectional championship team and their cousin Carl was on the 1994 sectional championship team.  Alex Shrum's brother, Andrew was on the 2006 sectional champinship team.

Hebron lost to Bowman Academy in the regional.  Damon Wallace led the team with 15 points.  The Hawks ended the season with a 23-2 record. 

ARTUSO AND WALLACE MAKE ALL-CONFERENCE

Damon Wallace was voted as the #2 player in the PCC and Cody Artuso was voted #4.  Both players also made All-Conference last season as well.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Coach John Steinhilber was named the Times Coach of the Year.
