John Steinhilber is coaching his fifth season at Hebron.

This is the 101st season of boys varsity basketball at Hebron.  Hebron started playing boys basketball during the 1914-15 school year.  The program has 1176 recorded wins and 885 losses for a .571 winning percentage.

Hebron opened the season with a 65-46 win over Covenant Christian.  Donovan Friel led the team with 23 points including 7 3-pointers.  Colton Jones added 10 points and Bryce Hanaway had 12 assists and scored 8 to move over the 400 career point mark.  Donovan's 7 3-pointers tied Shawn Ryan, who had 7 against Westville in 1987-88, for the 2nd most in a single game.  The record is 9 held by Josh Spinks (1993-94) and Mike Pritchard (1995-96).  Bryce Hanaway also had a 3-pointer to move into a 14th place tie with Ryon Brindley (2004) on the career list.  Bryce also passed 1965 grad Bob Smock, 1995 grad Rafe Terpstra, 2006 grad Caleb Biggs and 1993 grad Jac Eldridge into 12th place on the career assist list.  Bryce's 12 assists are the 5th most in a game.

The boys beat Kouts to open up PCC play 66-44.  Donovan Friel had 24 points and 6 3-pointers to lead the team.  The 6 3's the 3rd most in a game and has happened 5 other times.  Donovan has moved up 11 spots in 2 games on the career 3-pointer list to 18th place.  Carson Roeske had 11 points.  Bryce Hanaway added 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals and Colton Jones had 8 rebounds.

Hebron beat Wheeler 55-53.  Bryce Hanaway led the team with 17 points.  Spencer Sutherland had 8 points to move over the 200 career point mark and blocked 6 shots.  Bryce moved into 11th place on the career assist list by passing 2002 grad Joe Luchene.

The boys raised their record to 4-0 with a 62-37 win over Victory Christian.  It is the first 4-0 start since the 2001-02 season.  Donovan Friel had 14 points and Spencer Sutherland added 12 points and 3 blocked shots.  Spencer moved into a 15th place tie with 1995 grad Justin Moore on the career blocked shot list and moved into the top 50 on the career rebound list.  Bryce Hanaway had 6 assists and moved past 1976 grad Joe Gericke into 10th place on the career assist list.

Hebron beat LaCrosse 68-48 in the homecoming game.  Bryce Hanaway and Donovan Friel each scored 17 and Spencer Sutherland added 15.  Donovan went over the 200 career point mark in the game.  Bryce had 3 steals to move into 30th place on the career list.

The boys lost to Morgan 44-31.  Spencer Sutherland and Bryce Hanaway each had 8 points to lead the team.  Spencer moved past 2012 grad Jay Patz on the career blocked shot list to 14th place.  Bryce moved past 1986 grad Jamie Fankhauser and 1995 grad Bill Miller into 8th place on the career assist list.

Hebron lost to Whiting 68-47.  Carson Roeske led the team with 13 points followed by Bryce Hanaway with 11.  Bryce moved past 1973 grad Pat Murphy into 7th place on the career assist list.

The team lost to North Newton 64-56.  Donovan Friel had 15 points and Carson Roeske added 12 points.  Spencer Sutherland blocked 5 shots to move past 1990 grad Ron Kobza, 2008 grad Adam Spurr and 1992 grad Joe Hoernig into 11th place on the career blocked shot list.  Bryce had 6 assists to move past 1982 grad John Kobza into 6th place on the career list.

Hebron lost to Lowell 79-58.  Carson Roeske and Ryan Schmidt each scored 12 points to lead the team.  Donovan Friel had 11 points and Spencer Sutherland added 10 points.  Spencer had 3 blocked shots to tie 1995 grad Mike Brawner for 10th place on the career list and also moved into 40th place on the career rebound list. 

The boys ended a 4 game losing streak with a 57-51 overtime win over Calumet.  Bryce Hanaway led the team with 19 points.  Carson Roeske and Ryan Schmidt each added 12 points.  Spencer Sutherland blocked 6 shots to tie 1994 grad Ryan Zeldenrust for 9th place on the career list.

Hebron lost to Lake Station 55-43.  Donovan Friel led the team with 18 points.  Donovan tied 1995 grad Justin Moore for 10th place on the career 3-pointer list.  Spencer Sutherland blocked 5 shots to move past 1990 grad Mark Brown into 8th place on the career list.

The boys lost in the first round of the PCC tourney to Washington 45-36.  Bryce Hanaway had 15 points and Carson Roeske added 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Carson went over 100 career points.  Bryce moved into 9th place on the career 3-pointer list passing 2008 grad Eric Elliot and 1995 grad Justin Moore.  Bryce also moved into 25th place on the career steals list.

BLANK WINS DINSMOORE AWARD

Brad Blank won the M.E. Dinsmoore award for mental attitude.  Brad joins 4 Gold Ball Award winners and 9 M.E. Dinsmoore award winners from Hebron.  Gold Ball winners were Floyd Johnson (1940), Bill Urbas (1952), Jerry Steinhilber (1955) and Paul Knauff (1962).  Previous M.E. Dinsmoore award winners were Chuck Riley (1963), Bob Smock (1965), Bill Smock (1967), Mike Hofferth (1970), Clair Knapp (1986), Ron Kobza (1990), Josh Spinks (1994), Andrew Shrum (2008) and John Pauer (2012).  Brad also won the Volleyball and Soccer mental attitude awards this year.  Brad's dad Pete won the mental attitude award in Cross Country 1980 and Track 1981 and Brad's sister Stacy won the mental attitude award in Volleyball 2008 and Softball 2009.

The boys beat South Central 40-39.  Donovan Friel had 16 points and Bryce Hanaway added 13 points.  Donovan had 4 3-pointers to tie 2005 grad Drew Gericke for 8th place on the career list.  Spencer Sutherland blocked 3 shots to move past Jeff Veit into 6th place on the career list.

Hebron beat North Judson 64-49.  Carson Roeske had a career high 31 points and 12 rebounds to lead the team.  Donovan Friel added 14 points and Bryce Hanaway had 7 assists.  Bryce moved past 1990 grad Ron Kobza into 5th place on the career assist list. The 31 points by Carson set a new freshman scoring record at Hebron.  Ron Kobza, Josh Spinks and Andy Marks each had an 18 point game as freshmen.  Donovan went over the 300 career point mark and tied 2010 grad David Ortiz on the career 3-pointer list.

The boys lost to Rensselaer 45-40.  Donovan Friel led the team with 13 points.  Donovan passed 1994 grad Josh Spinks into 6th place on the career 3-pointer list.

The team lost to Hammond Clark 55-53.  Bryce Hanaway and Carson Roeske had 12 points and Colton Jones added 11. 

Washington beat Hebron 56-50.  Bryce Hanaway had 20 points and 4 assists and Carson Roeske added 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Bryce moved over the 300 career assist mark in the game.  Bryce moved into the top 50 scoring list in the game.  Bryce passed 1950 grad Dale Eichelberger and 1986 grad Dana Hernandez into 49th place.  Bryce also passed 1994 grad Josh Spinks into 7th place on the career 3-pointer list.

The boys lost to Boone Grove 63-52.  Bryce Hanaway led the team with 17 points and Donovan Friel added 15 points.  Carson Roeske led the team with 8 rebounds.  Bryce went over the 600 career point mark to 601.  He passed 1974 grad Mike Chapman, 1940 grad Floyd Johnson and tied 1952 grad Bill Urbas and 1966 grad Darryl Parent in 45th place on the career scoring list.

Hebron lost to Kankakee Valley 62-60.  Donovan Friel had 23 points on 5 3-pointers.  Bryce Hanaway added 10 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds.  Carson Roeske had 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.  Colton Jones had 7 rebounds.  Bryce moved past 1986 grad Dana Hernandez and 1982 grad Tim Roeske into 3rd place on the career assist list.  Bryce also moved past 2010 grad David Ortiz into 44th place on the career scoring list.

The team lost to Westville 64-55 to finish the PCC round robin with a 3-4 record.  Donovan Friel had 23 points and 5 3-pointers for the 2nd game in a row.  Bryce Hanaway added 14 points and 4 assists and Carson Roeske led the team with 5 rebounds.  Bryce moved into 2nd place on the career assist list passing 1971 grad Gary Scroggins.  Bryce also moved into the top 20 in career steals.  Donovan has made the 2nd most 3-pointers in a season with 57.  The record is 63 set in 2005 by junior Caleb Biggs.  Bryce moved up 2 spots on the career scoring list past 1998 grad Josh Lindley and 1954 grad Jim Reed.

The boys lost to River Forest 58-32.  Brad Blank and Logan Ryan each had 6 points to lead the team.  Carson Roeske scored his 200th career point in the game.  Bryce went past 1978 grad Dan Largent into 41st place with 630 career points.

Hebron beat Whiting 57-50 in the opening round of the sectional.  Donovan Friel had a career high 30 points and went over the 400 career point mark.  Carson Roeske had 12 points, Spencer Sutherland 8 rebounds and Bryce Hanaway 6 assists.  Bryce moved past 1984 grad Dale Kaczmarski into 40th place on the career scoring list.

The team lost to Bishop Noll in the sectional championship game 67-47.  Bryce Hanaway led the team with 15 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds.  Bryce moved past 1994 grad Ryan Zeldenrust, 2004 grad Ryon Brindley and 1962 grad Charles Morrow on the career scoring list.  Bryce finished with 654 points and in 37th place on the career scoring list.  Spencer Sutherland had 8 points and 8 rebounds including his 300th career point.
