"Scored 1018 career points at Hebron High School where team won first sectional in 19 years...named 1st team Academic All-State...a starter and season assist leader at Indiana Wesleyan College... A 21-year varsity head coaching career with a record of 350-145...his teams won nine sectionals, five regionals, three semi-states and his 1993 Jeffersonville team won the state championship...from 1990 to 2000, his Jeffersonville teams won more games (210) and had the highest winning percentage (83.7%) of anyprogram in the state...voted 1993 Indiana High School coach of the year and tabbed as the 1996 Indiana All-Star head coach...was assistant coach at University of Nebraska, and head coach at Southern Nazarene University, where he had three 20-win seasons and two National Tournament appearances."

Mike also coached at Hebron, where he was 30-13 in 2 seasons.  His teams won the PCC round robin once and the South County Tourney once.  Mike still holds the Hebron single game record with 20 free throws made and 24 free throws attempted and is currently 13th on the career scoring list.  In 2018, Mr. Broughton was named the IndyStar Indiana All-Star game director.  Mike and his wife, Pat, have given a scholarship at Hebron to a senior boy athlete and senior girl athlete since 2015.

 

BOB SMOCK

"Bob Smock put up big scoring totals in high school and college.  A 1965 graduate of Hebron High School, he totaled 1591 career points in three seasons, averaging 20.8 as a sophomore, 26.0 per game as a junior and 21.0 as a senior, in the process becoming the only player to win Porter County Conference MVP honors three times.  His career averages were 22.7 points and 15.2 rebounds per game, shooting 61% from the field.  At Indiana Central College under Hall of Fame coach Angus Nicoson, Smock totaled 1203 points, 607 rebounds and 194 assists in 106 career games, among program leaders in each category.  A teacher, coach and counselor at North Newton, Twin Lakes, Tri-County, Frontier and McCutcheon high schools from 1969-2006, he coached Twin Lakes to the 1989 IHSAA softball state championship.  He resides in Monticello."

Mr. Smock actually scored 1469 points in 3 years at Hebron and 122 points as a freshman at Whiteland High School for a 4 year total of 1591 points.  Bob is currently 2nd in career points, 1st in career points per game, 1st in career field goal percentage, 2nd in career 2 point field goals made, 1st in career free throws made, 7th in career rebounds and 4th in career rebounds per game.  Bob has the 2nd highest single season points per game average at Hebron of 26.0, only his brother Bill (28.5) is higher.  He also has the single season record of 164 free throws made and the 3rd highest rebounds per game in a season (15.2).  Bob scored 44 and 43 points in a game and also had 13- 30 point games (1st) and 25- 20 point games (2nd).
