HEBRON
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
HISTORY
The Hebron girls cross country program officially started in the fall of 1990. Cross country requires
a minimun of five runners to make a complete team. Junior Shelly Miller, Sophomore Lori Jenkins, and
Freshmen Stacy Barry, Erica Thurner, Amy Cooper and Rochelle Hanaway made up Coach Dave
Walker's first girls cross country team at Hebron.
Prior to the first girls team, a handful of girls ran on the boys teams in the mid to late 1980's. Teresa
Vitoux was the first female cross country runner at Hebron. As a Sophomore in the 1985 season she
joined coach Dave Walker's boys team. Vitoux also ran as a Junior in 1986. Senior Amy Hastings,
Sophomore Shelly Miller and Freshman Lori Jenkins all ran during the 1989 season.
From the mid 1980's to the early 1990's the Porter County Conference had a separate race for girls
at the boys PCC meet. No team scores were kept and no All-Conference awards were officially
handed out. For the purposes of this site some of those teams and individuals are recognized for
their achievements. The PCC added girls cross country prior to the 1993 season. A round robin
champion, PCC meet champion, All-Conference runners and a mental attitude award winner are all
recognized by the PCC.
The IHSAA held its first state meet for girls in 1981. Hebron competed for the first time in 1990.
Cross country is not a class sport. There are four meets that make up the state tournament. The
sectional, regional, semi-state and state meet. The top five teams and top fifteen individuals
currently advance to the next round. The top twenty-five individuals at the state meet are recognized
as All-State runners. From 1981 through 2006 the girls ran 4000 meters. In 2007 the courses were
lengthened to 5000 meters (approximately 3.1 miles) to match the boys distance.
In this site you will find team records, coaching records, individual times, season and career
leaders, team achievements, individual achievements and much more. The information was compiled
from information received from the coaches.
In the yearly statistic breakdown, a number of categories are included. They are: runners name,
runners grade, number of meets run, points accumulated, 1st place finishes, top 10 finishes, 1st
Hebron runner, fastest PCC round robin time, fastest dual meet time, fastest invitational time, time in
PCC meet, times for each round of state tournament series.
The career statistics are grouped by the year in which the runner graduated. The statistics include;
number of years run, total meets, points, 1st place finishes, top 10 finishes, 1st for Hebron, All-
Conference years, and other individual achievements.
Another section on the site includes lists of the fastest times at various meets and locations. The
times have been separated by meet and location to try to give the best comparison possible. The
girls have run the PCC meet and PCC round robin at Valparaiso University from 1993-1999, Sunset Hill
Park 2000-2002, and Boone Grove High School 2003-present. The sectional has been run at
Valparaiso University 1989-1997, and Sunset Hill Park 1998-present. New Prairie High School is the
host of the regional and semi-state. There has also been a number of invitationals that Hebron has
participated in over the years.
Starting in 2018, the PCC round robin was run in 2 separate meets. All 8 PCC schools run at the same
time with dual scoring being implemented. It is basically a double round robin with the 2 races. In 2019,
Hebron hosted the sectional.
