HEBRON

BOYS GOLF

Golf at Hebron started in the early 1970s with athletic director, Paul Schroeder, driving a few individuals to golf meets.  The first official team at Hebron, under the direction of Steve Davis, was in the spring of 1975.  The sport would stay alive for 10 seasons.  Two other coaches, Tom Gollings and Bill Smith, also were head coaches during the sports' tenure.  1977 would be the best golf season at Hebron.  The team had a record of 10-6 and finished 11th in the sectional.  Hebron competed in the Crown Point sectional, held at Pheasant Valley.  A total of about 20 teams competed in the sectional at that time.

There aren't a lot of individual stats available.  However, two individuals stood out from the stats that are available.  1977 graduate Craig Patz and 1980 graduate Tim Busker performed at a very high level.  In 1980, Tim shot a school record 81 in the sectional.  That score was good enough for a third place finish and also enabled him to be the first regional qualifier in boys golf at Hebron.  Tim also has the lowest single season 9-hole average (38.3).  Craig was a sophomore on the first Hebron golf team and was the original record holder of all known stats.  In 1975, Craig shot an 86 in the sectional, which is the second lowest recorded total.  Craig also has the second and third lowest 9-hole averages on record (1977- 42.4 and 1976- 42.5).

In the spring of the 2002-03 school year, the PCC started boys golf as a conference sport.  The PCC offered a tournament championship, All-Conference and a Mental Attitude Award.  In 2015, senior Bryce Hanaway, was the first Hebron player to participate in the PCC tournament.  This was the only meet Bryce played in all season.  Sophomore Nick Bell became the first Hebron golfer to compete in a regular season, PCC tournament and sectional in over 35 years, when he played in 2019.

The 2020 season was cancelled by the IHSAA due to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic.  In 2021 Nick Bell and Drew Grennes both competed for Hebron and put together the most decorated individual seasons in Hebron history.  They became the 2nd and 3rd regional qualifiers for Hebron.  Nick became the first PCC All-Conference athlete and PCC Mental Attitude award winner.  Nick also tied for 1st at the Westville Invitational, a first for Hebron.  Drew set the Hebron record for being a match medalist 4 times during the season.  Drew also set the season 18-hole average record with Nick a close 2nd.  Nick and Drew also recorded the 2nd and 3rd lowest 18-hole scores in history and Drew had the 4th lowest 9-hole average in history.

The stats on the following pages include yearly team records, meet scores, and individual stats.  Some of the stats available are:  athlete name, grade, # of 9-hole meets, total score, 9-hole average, # of 18 hole meets, total score, 18-hole average, # of times being meet medalist, # of times being the low golfer for Hebron and sectional score.
